Region: Mt. Etna, Sicily, Italy
Varietal: 80% Nerello Mascalese & 20% Nerello Cappuccio
Tasting Notes: The 2019 Terre dei Miti Etna Rosso is a vibrant and structured expression of Mount Etna’s volcanic terroir. Aromas of red cherry, wild berries, and dried herbs are layered with delicate floral notes and a touch of licorice. The palate is well-balanced, offering bright acidity and firm yet refined tannins that frame the ripe red fruit flavors. A mineral core adds depth, leading to a long, harmonious finish with hints of spice and earth. Approachable now, this wine will continue to develop with short-term aging.
Producer: Terre dei Miti is a Sicilian winery dedicated to expressing the rich history and unique terroir of Mount Etna. Owned by the Nicosia family, whose winemaking roots stretch back five generations, the estate has played a key role in the resurgence of quality-driven Sicilian wines. With vineyards planted on the slopes of Europe’s most active volcano, Terre dei Miti embraces both tradition and innovation, crafting wines that reflect the power and elegance of this dramatic landscape. Their Etna Rosso is a prime example of the winery’s commitment to showcasing the purity and minerality that have made the region one of Italy’s most exciting wine destinations.
Vineyard & Winemaking: The vineyards for Terre dei Miti’s Etna Rosso are located on Mount Etna’s eastern slopes in Trecastagni, an area prized for its high-altitude, mineral-rich volcanic soils. Here, the indigenous Nerello Mascalese grape thrives, producing wines with structure, finesse, and a distinct sense of place. Complemented by a small proportion of Nerello Cappuccio, the wine undergoes a careful, low-intervention vinification process to preserve its bright acidity and fine-grained tannins. Aged in a combination of stainless steel and oak, the final wine captures the signature balance of freshness and complexity that defines great Etna Rosso, offering a true reflection of this remarkable terroir.
