Tasting notes: 150 years ago, Archduke Johann of Austria brought this variety to South Tyrol. Today the Isarco Valley is one of the best white wine regions in Italy. This Sylvaner is a fresh and fruity dry wine, with aromas of citrus fruits and alpine herbs, ideal with light starters, asparagus, and cooked or grilled fish. A Sylvaner is also a perfect aperitif wine!
Producer: Founded in 1956, Hans’ focus was selling open wines from the winery to Switzerland. In the 1980’s, his son Toni changed over to marketing bottled wines, and since 2001 he has been supported by his grandson Hannes. Not only have the grapes from the family’s 10 hectares been processed from the onset, but also that of 50 regional grape growers as well. This close cooperation has extended for generations and is essentially responsible for the excellent quality of the wines.
Vineyard and Winemaking:On the sunny and steep slopes above the impressive Isarco River gorge, even at the height of summer, the nights are cool. The low temperatures conserve the acidity in the grapes while allowing for the development of marvelous aromas. Careful temperature control during fermentation and a great deal of attention during the maturation in stainless steel tanks maintains the aromas and freshness.
