Producer: Montsecano, established in 2005, is a collaborative venture between Chilean artist and photographer Julio Donoso and renowned Alsatian winemaker André Ostertag. Situated in Chile's Casablanca Valley, the winery is dedicated to producing exceptional Pinot Noir that reflects its unique terroir. Vineyard & Winemaking: The 2022 Montsecano 'Refugio' Pinot Noir is crafted from organically farmed grapes harvested by hand. Fermentation occurs with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks, preserving the purity of the fruit. Unlike Montsecano's flagship cuvée, which is aged in concrete eggs, 'Refugio' sees a combination of stainless steel and neutral oak aging. This approach maintains the wine's freshness while adding subtle complexity and texture. The result is a Pinot Noir that embodies the essence of the Casablanca Valley's granitic soils and cool coastal climate, offering a transparent and vibrant expression of its terroir.
