Region: Las Dichas, Casablanca, Chile
Varietal: 100% Pinot Noir
Tasting Notes: The wine shows bright raspberry, strawberry jam, with rose petals, violets, and a light component of baking bread. This vintage the wine is extremely vibrant with a some green notes and a light, glassy, soft , and smooth mid-palate. The light tannin cradles the wine and lends itself to the refreshing acidity with a long, jam influenced finish.
Producer: Montsecano, established in 2005, is a collaborative venture between Chilean artist and photographer Julio Donoso and renowned Alsatian winemaker André Ostertag. Situated in Chile's Casablanca Valley, the winery is dedicated to producing exceptional Pinot Noir that reflects its unique terroir. The estate practices biodynamic viticulture, emphasizing a harmonious relationship with nature and minimal intervention in both vineyard and cellar. The vineyards are dry-farmed and plowed by horse, with no synthetic chemicals used, reflecting a dedication to sustainability and purity. This philosophy results in wines that are authentic expressions of their origin, showcasing the distinct characteristics of the Casablanca Valley.
Vineyard & Winemaking: The 2022 Montsecano 'Refugio' Pinot Noir is crafted from organically farmed grapes harvested by hand. Fermentation occurs with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks, preserving the purity of the fruit. Unlike Montsecano's flagship cuvée, which is aged in concrete eggs, 'Refugio' sees a combination of stainless steel and neutral oak aging. This approach maintains the wine's freshness while adding subtle complexity and texture. The result is a Pinot Noir that embodies the essence of the Casablanca Valley's granitic soils and cool coastal climate, offering a transparent and vibrant expression of its terroir.
