Region: Gualtallary, Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina

Varietal: 100% Malbec

Tasting Notes: The nose reveals delicate floral notes of violets and lavender, complemented by sage, crushed plums, and a subtle touch of cinnamon from the stems. On the palate, it is dry, lean, and vibrant, with a focused structure that gains tension from its chalky texture. This high-altitude Malbec is both compact and refined, offering a finely woven balance of intensity and elegance.

Producer: Michelini i Mufatto is a family-run winery established in 2019 by Andrea Mufatto, Gerardo Michelini, and their son, Manuel Michelini. Situated at the foot of the Andes in the Uco Valley, Argentina, the winery is located in the La Cautiva subregion of Gualtallary, known for its high elevation and unique soil composition rich in calcium carbonate and granite.  The family is committed to crafting distinctive wines that reflect tension, elegance, and balance, working with grape varieties such as Semillon, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec.  Their innovative approach extends beyond Argentina, as they also produce wines in Uruguay and Spain, making them the first Argentine family to import small-production wines from Europe.

Vineyard & Winemaking: The 'Oleo' Malbec 2021 is sourced from a specific 0.4-hectare plot within the La Cautiva vineyard in Gualtallary, Uco Valley. This area is characterized by its high elevation and soils rich in calcium carbonate and granite, locally referred to as "Indian cement," providing a unique terroir for vine cultivation. The vineyard's altitude and soil composition contribute to the distinctiveness of the grapes grown. The winemaking process for 'Oleo' involves fermenting whole clusters with native yeasts, followed by aging in foudres, aiming to preserve the wine's purity and expressiveness. This meticulous approach results in a Malbec that authentically reflects the unique terroir of Gualtallary.
