Tasting Notes: Sandrone brings its care and dedication to this big, bold and beautiful Barbera. The wine begins with aromas of spiced black plums, black cherry jam and savory herbs. The palate is very rich with flavors of roasted blackberry, smoked meats and savory herbs. Firm tannins and classic Barbera acidity will allow this wine to age well.
Producer: Luciano Sandrone is one of the most respected names in Piedmont, Italy, known for its innovative approach to winemaking while respecting the region's traditions. Founded in 1978, the winery quickly gained a reputation for producing wines of exceptional quality. Sandrone's philosophy centers around the meticulous selection of grapes and a commitment to showcasing the unique terroir of the Langhe region. The winery has consistently delivered wines that highlight the potential of native Piedmontese varieties, and its Barbera d'Alba is a prime example of how Sandrone elevates this traditional grape through modern techniques and careful craftsmanship.
Vineyard & Winemaking: The 2020 Barbera d'Alba is sourced from Sandrone's carefully tended vineyards in the Langhe, particularly from the areas of Monforte d'Alba, Novello, and Barolo. The fruit is hand-harvested and undergoes spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, a technique that preserves the wine's pure expression of the grape. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels of 500 liters for nine months, allowing it to develop complexity while maintaining the freshness and vibrancy that Barbera is known for. The result is a wine that balances rich fruit flavors with a refined structure, showcasing the elegance and depth that Sandrone is celebrated for.
