Region: Santenay, Burgundy, France

Varietal: 100% Pinot Noir

Tasting Notes: Fragrant aromas of berry fruit, rose petals and cinnamon introduce the Santenay 1er Cru Beauregard, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy wine with powdery tannins, a juicy core of fruit and a long, almost extravagantly perfumed finish. This would appear to be quite strongly marked by whole cluster fermentation, and it has turned out very well indeed in its distinctive style.

Producer: Domaine Chanson’s Santenay-Beauregard 1er Cru 2018 highlights the legacy of this historic Burgundy estate, which has been crafting exceptional wines since 1750. Known for its mastery of Côte de Beaune terroirs, the estate emphasizes sustainable viticulture, reflected in their decision to eliminate herbicides in 2015. The Beauregard vineyard is a standout among Santenay’s Premier Cru sites, located on the upper slopes of the Beauregard hill, where its stony, clay-limestone soils contribute a signature mineral-driven complexity. This vineyard, meticulously maintained by Chanson, produces wines that epitomize the elegance and depth for which the region is celebrated.

Vineyard & Winemaking: The Santenay-Beauregard 1er Cru vineyard spans approximately three hectares within Chanson's holdings, situated at an optimal elevation for Pinot Noir cultivation. The soil composition, rich in limestone and pebbles, ensures excellent drainage and fosters vine health, promoting the nuanced expression of the terroir in the wine. Chanson’s winemaking approach balances tradition and precision, including whole-cluster fermentation and aging in oak barrels for up to 18 months. This thoughtful process preserves the vineyard’s distinct character while enhancing the wine’s structure and complexity, creating a refined reflection of its Premier Cru origins.
