Region: Bordeaux, France
Varietal: 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc
Tasting Notes: This Comtesse offers a striking balance of structure and subtlety, showcasing the exceptional value of French Bordeaux. Silky and fresh with juicy red fruits, the Merlot in the blend gives it a deep and ripe character with crisp acidity; the Cabernet Franc imparts a tangy, delicious edge, while the soft, harmonized tannins enhance its smoothness. The finish is long and elegant, with bright notes of blackcurrant and plum making it an ideal companion for grilled meats, rich pasta dishes, and fine cheeses.
Producer: The Malet Roquefort family, with roots in Saint-Émilion since 1705, has a rich history in Bordeaux viticulture that stretches back even further. Their legacy in winemaking includes the renowned Château La Gaffelière, a Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé since 1954. The family's historical connection to the land was further confirmed in 1969 when Comte Léo de Malet Roquefort discovered Gallo-Roman ruins on their property, highlighting a long tradition of viticulture. Today, the Domaines Comte de Malet Roquefort encompasses several esteemed estates, including Château Chapelle d’Aliénor, Château Armens, and Château La Connivence.
Vineyard & Winemaking: Introduced in 2012, Comtesse de Malet Roquefort was created to make the Malet Roquefort family’s exceptional Bordeaux wines accessible to a broader audience. Crafted by the same team behind Château La Gaffelière, this wine represents the family's commitment to sharing the elegance and finesse of their Right Bank wines. It is produced from a careful selection of grapes sourced from their own properties and trusted partners, serving as an accessible entry point into the world of Domaines Comte de Malet Roquefort.
