Region: Ribbon Ridge, Willamette Valley, Oregon
Varietal: 100% Pinot Noir
Tasting Notes: The 2021 Pinot Noir La Spirale is perfumed to the max, with an array of violets and roses evolving into delicate black cherry in an air of chalk dust and sweet smoke. Lifted and refined with cooling acidity, the 2021 doesn't miss a beat, coming across both finessed yet also sapid with slowly saturating masses of ripe dark red fruits. This cakes the palate with primary concentration and minerals, lingering impossibly long and structured yet perfectly fresh. There's tremendous cellar potential here. (Drink between 2025-2033)
Producer: Bergström Wines, a family-owned winery in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, has earned a reputation for producing wines that express the purity and complexity of the region’s terroir. Founded in 1999 by Josh and Alison Bergström, the winery is known for its commitment to sustainable farming practices and meticulous vineyard management. With a focus on small-lot, single-vineyard wines, Bergström has become a standout producer in Oregon’s renowned Pinot Noir landscape. The ‘La Spirale’ vineyard, in particular, is known for its exceptional quality, producing Pinot Noir with depth and elegance. This wine exemplifies the winery’s dedication to creating wines that showcase both the character of the land and the artistry of winemaking.
Vineyard & Winemaking: The 2021 ‘La Spirale’ Pinot Noir is sourced exclusively from the estate vineyard of the same name, located in the heart of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. The vineyard’s unique soils, a mix of volcanic and sedimentary, impart a distinctive minerality to the wine. The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in small lots, with a combination of whole-cluster and destemmed fruit, allowing for a balance of freshness and complexity. The wine undergoes aging in French oak barrels, with a portion of new oak to add structure and depth without overpowering the delicate fruit character. This careful winemaking process results in a wine that is both expressive and refined, with the ability to age gracefully while offering immediate enjoyment.
